Prep Time: 30 mins

Bake Time: 30 mins

Cooling Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins

Yield: 48 cookies (2.5 inches each)

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • ½ cup finely chopped unsweetened dried cranberries*

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup molasses

  • ¼ cup melted coconut oil

  • ½ cup water (as needed)

  • ½ cup melted carob and/or yogurt chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat: Set the oven to 350°F. Spray two cookie sheets with nonstick spray.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, cranberries, baking powder, and cinnamon.

  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together egg, molasses, and melted coconut oil. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, adding water slowly until a firm dough forms.

  4. Roll & Cut: Roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface. Use a dog bone-shaped cutter to cut out cookies, re-rolling scraps as needed. Poke 4 holes in each cookie with a fork. Place them on prepared pans, spaced 1 inch apart.

  5. Bake & Cool: Bake for 30 minutes, then turn off the oven and let cookies cool inside for 1 hour to achieve crispness. Drizzle with melted carob or yogurt chips and let stand for 15 minutes until set.

Tips: Avoid using raisins instead of cranberries, as they are toxic to dogs. Treats should not exceed 10% of a dog's daily caloric intake.

Storage: Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
